Despite his constant bad luck, Candide is eternally optimistic. He starts his journey being chased from his home, beaten by one army, recruited by another, almost getting burned alive, and continuing on a crazy journey to find his friends and happiness. He tries to follow his tutor’s teachings that “everything is for the best,” so he takes everything thrown at him.
